VIC AND MARGARET BALL
INTERN SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
(COMMERCIAL FLORICULTURE PRODUCTION INTERNSHIPS)
Application Deadline: March 1 and October 1 each year.
Please read the instructions thoroughly prior to completing the online application form.
The application packet requires several pieces of information. First, you will complete the online application form. You will receive an email copy of the application you submitted. When you receive this, please print it out. You will need a copy of your completed application to send in along with the other required materials (listed below).
Once you've submitted your online application form, you need to:
- Prepare a Personal Statement -- Your personal statement should be one page and include your past and current involvement in floriculture activities, your expectations from the program, and explain your future career goals in the industry.
- Get Official Transcripts from your College/University -- Official transcripts must be submitted. AFE will not accept copies.
- Take the copy of your Completed Application, Personal Statement and Official Transcripts to your Faculty Advisor -- your faculty advisor will be responsible for submitting this material to AFE on your behalf. He or she must sign the copy of the application (where indicated), write a letter of recommendation on your behalf, and submit all materials to AFE prior to the deadline of March 1 or October 1.
Applications missing any of the above materials, or without a signature by a faculty member will not be considered.
If selected, internships must be started within 12 months of application date and must be completed before graduation.

Please list the names and contact information for home and campus newspapers or newsletters so we can forward a press release should you be awarded this internship/scholarship.
Student Agrees:
1.) By signing below the student certifies all the information provided on the application is true and complete, and understands that any misstatement, falsification, or omission of information shall be grounds for rejection of the application or disqualification.
2.) The student agrees to mutually complete the Internship Goal Sheet with the placement employer.
3.) The student will be disqualified from the program for inappropriate behavior such as any physical or verbal altercations with the employer and/or employees, any illegal use of alcohol or drugs, or any other such behaviors.
4.) The student understands that if he/she does not complete the agreed time period, he/she will be disqualified from the program and might not receive the scholarship.
5.) The student agrees to acknowledge support for the Vic and Margaret Ball Intern Scholarship Program in any type of public relations, press releases or other types of publicity concerning the internship.
6.) The student agrees to perform an exit interview with the employer prior on their last day of employment, as well as complete a brief report of the experience (minimum of 500 words) within thirty (30) days of completion. Upon receipt of the written report and employer questionnaire, scholarship funds will be released.

Advisor Agrees:
1.) To evaluate the applicant carefully and honestly on aptitude, skills, experience and potential as a future member of the floral industry.
2.) To communicate frequently with the Intern throughout the internship.
3.) To travel to the internship site to visit with the student and supervisor to monitor progress midway through the internship, if possible. Faculty will be reimbursed up to $700 for travel expenses.
4.) To write a brief progress report midway through the training period (to be submitted with travel expenses). In the event the faculty member is not able to visit the student, the Advisor should submit a report to AFE based on the communications between him/her and the student.

NEXT STEPS:
Please print a copy of the emailed application and take it to your faculty advisor, along with your typed personal statement, and your official transcripts.
Ask your faculty advisor to sign the emailed copy of the application (REQUIRED), and to write a letter of recommendation. Your faculty advisor will submit all paperwork to AFE on your behalf. (This can all be scanned and emailed, or sent by mail). Be sure to double check to make sure your information was sent by the deadline date of March 1 or October 1.
The student is required to send in a digital color photo to AFE to accompany the application. This photo will be only used for promotional purposes. Photos can be emailed to daker@afeendowment.org subject line, Ball Internship photo.
